That's correct, you need to load a film in the camera in order to have
correct shots. The reason it that all OM with OTF tecnology (Off The Film)
read the correct exposure directly from the film/curtains during the
exposure. In order to achieve this the curtains are painted with a color
with tha same reflection rate as the film. If the correct exposure is
faster than 1/60 you will not notice any difference between film/no film,
but for slower times the curtains are fully open and the meter reads from
the pressure plate (in the case of no film), that is very dark, so the
meter think of a very low light and makes the exposure very long compared
to the correct one. The reading you have in the viewfinder is not influeced
by this method.
