2. Hang your camera bag on it to damp vibrations
Be careful how *big* [heavy] your bag is! My Tamrac Superlight 4 is about
right without the body/lens in it; about 3-5 pounds. The Superlight 9 is
another story [bag is superlight, but not the contents]! Another method is
a large bandana filled with a few indigenous rocks (a couple pounds) tied
to the bottom of the center post.
3. (Olympus advice) Hold camera when taking a picture. (Probably doesn't
apply when using Bulb.
You're right; doesn't work well using "B." Try both methods (cable release
and the "Oly advice"). Which works best to about 1/4 or 1/2 second depends
on user, lens length/weight, and tripod legs/head.
I've also used the Winder 2 with electronic remote release switch that
plugs into the handle (all the winding vibration occurs after the
exposure). A pneumatic release imparts even less vibration than a cable
release if the hose reel is allowed to drape to the ground between you and
the camera. See the 20-30 foot "air releases" at the very bottom of this page:

4. Use mirror lock or self timer to reduce vibrations from camera's
innards.
Highly recommended for lenses longer than 300mm if at all possible;
alternative is the pneumatic release already mentioned.
