Looking again, I added a couple of versions.
A straight B&W conversion is wildly different, and a much fairer comparison

2. I see grain as an artifact of the imperfection of our image capture
systems. I find it a distraction, not an attractive addition, to this kind
of portrait. The woman has such gorgeous, smooth skin. I also de-nuked the
red dress.
3. A simple B&W conversion, remove color, don't change contrast, add grain,
etc.
4. Lightened up lower middle tones.
5. B&W conversion, as opposed to simple destauration; I made the reds
darker.
6. Sans grain.
7. For Wayne. I agree with Wayne about the white box, but I tried to stay
away from using masks for local changes, so it's something one could do in
LR. But here's an idea what's possible, papers darker, box - what box?
