I would love to see your conversion, Moose, but the link just gives me an

Oops, somehow, I manage to do that once in a while.

Looking again, I added a couple of versions.
A straight B&W conversion is wildly different, and a much fairer
comparison to the color. <cid:part1.81A5F88C.C207FE53@gmail.com>
2. I see grain as an artifact of the imperfection of our image capture
systems. I find it a distraction, not an attractive addition, to this kind
of portrait. The woman has such gorgeous, smooth skin. I also de-nuked the red
dress.
3. A simple B&W conversion, remove color, don't change contrast, add
grain, etc.
4. Lightened up lower middle tones.
5. B&W conversion, as opposed to simple destauration; I made the reds darker.
6. Sans grain.
7. For Wayne. I agree with Wayne about the white box, but I tried to stay away
from
using masks for local changes, so it's something one could do in LR. But here's
an idea what's possible, papers darker, box - what box?
