In all honesty, I've never liked the 40-50 view. When I got my Nikon F back
in about 1970, my first lens was a 35/2. When I went to the OM, I got the
usual for the time combo of 24-50 macro-100. I found that toward the end
with the OM, I defaulted to the 21/2-28-48 combo always and sometimes added
the 85 or the 135/2.8. When I went back to Nikon with the F3, my go-to lens
was and remains the 17-35. I'm just more comfortable with wider lenses.
Remember, if your photos aren't good enough, you're not close enough.
