Our Fourth of July parades tend to reflect the, uh, local industry? It's
not unusual to have a few dozen........ok, make that a couple hundred
restored classic tractors in the parade. Snoooze. It's funny because my
father-in-law got quite animated a couple years ago when half the tractors
in the parade were NEWER than the ones he was still using on the farm!
Fortunately, as I had to ride in the Grinnell parade, this year, I was
pleased to note the surprising lack of John Deere tractors. Grinnell is also
a trucking town, so there were a bunch of big rigs, though. Our parade
route was about two-miles long, and we tossed somewhere around 100 pounds of
candy.
