Yes but it would play ordinary cassette tapes, it was an obvious choice
for me when my tape deck died especially as they were so cheap, I have a
lot of tapes. Hmmm maybe if they had stuck to the same media things
would have been different. I think probably though it was the access
times track to track.

Hi Ian,
Regarding DCC Media .... if you can't find any proper DCC media, then a
TDK SA-X cassette will do just fine. Take the SA-X cassette apart,
drill the appropriate holes in the casing (on "side B" of the case),
re-assemble cassette. Simple, and works very well as long as it's a NEW
cassette you do it to. Using an old SA-X cassette that has been
recorded on before (in analogue) seems to result in a lot of dropouts on
the tape which upsets the DCC player.
I'm sure there are other makes of tape that will work just as well, but
I've always been a TDK man when it comes to all types of tape.
