Do you use the swivel to flip to vertical format?
I've never been comfortable with a monopod. Using the swivel to flip to
vertical made it too unbalanced for me. Tilting the pod forward / backward
too often couldn't change the view far enough away from the horizon. Maybe
someday I'll put an Arca Swiss style quick release clamp on it and try it
again using an L-bracket to flip to vertical. Carrying a tripod iwth the
legs extended actually seems faster for me, but I'm not very steady using a
monopod.
The Manfrotto monopod with the trigger release to extend the leg is pretty
nice. I have doubts how good it would be as a walking stick but it is easy
to carry it with a camera mounted on it. The super quick height adjustment
with the trigger release was very nice. Bending down to use a slightly
misadjusted monopod doesn't work very well for me.

I still think this is one of the most rational articles on buying a
monopod. I ended up with a Manfrotto monopod and the swivel. Works
great.
