It depends on if you plan to use it for longer treks or just as a
walking support for short daytrips. Most monopod come with a somewhat
decent foam/rubber grip and can be used as a walking stick for short,
less demanding, trips.
Leki <http://www.leki.com> makes trekking poles that can also be used as
monopods, if your primary use of one would be for walks.
