I´ll give you my impressions Tom!
When you apply unsharp mask you must be cared of amount and
diameter. I think you applied unsharp mask seing the image
at 10-20% and you moved the amount bar until you saw a good
sharpness, much less mask would be better. Another important
thing is that if you see the image at 100%, you can see
interpolation, I think this scanner is making interpolation
at maximum resolution. Try scanning at maximum optical resolution
and reduce unsharp mask. (apply it seing the image at 100%)
