Bogen makes a small ballhead  that clamps to a tripod leg. Both Bogen and Gitzo 
have tripods with short center posts and legs that splay out wide thus allowing 
the camera to get close to the ground and still remain right side up.

<<Anybody have a more creative solution for getting down close to the ground 
(preferably with the camera body right side up)?>>
