I'd
rather use a Manfrotto for shooting in the USA than a Gitzo, mainly for
that reason.
I got stung on eBay for a "new, used once" cabon-fiber Gitzo that had
a cracked and slipping leg lock. When I found someone who was willing
to order the part, the 2cm-wide ring of plastic was quoted at $60.
I asked about the famed "lifetime warranty" and was told it was to
the original purchaser, and required a receipt from an authorized
dealer.
That's my first and last Gitzo!
