Perhaps because offering the services, typically associated with camera
stores catering to advanced amateur and professional photographers, just
isn't cost effective for them?
I was traveling through the Texas panhandle and needed a Bogen tripod
part. Hertner's in Amarillo, who is an authorized Bogen dealer, came to
the rescue. Since then I've noticed that most independently owned shops
who sell Bogen/Manfrotto tripods have replacement parts in stock. And
I've had other situations in which I've need parts in a hurry. I'd
rather use a Manfrotto for shooting in the USA than a Gitzo, mainly for
that reason.
