Same for me. I'm at the point where diminishing returns have kicked
in. Maybe it's because I really don't care as much as I used to. I've
fallen into the trap of "good enough."
That said, I can nerd out on microphone placement on a snare drum.

I forgot which version of ACR it was, but it's been about a half dozen
years ago that Adobe did a MAJOR change in the converter that was the
game-changer for me. With the Olympus files, it went from grainy noisy
to glassy and sharp. Colors improved, the whole ball of wax. What it
did for E1 files was incredible. I haven't gone back to compare what's
current with that revision, but I know that it was a change that
clicked with me. As to the Sonys? Who knows. I'm not of a mind to
figure that out these days, as my nerding is in music production right
now.
Speaking of... Paul, I got one of those Focusrite ISA ONE microphone
preamps a couple months ago. The UVP of that unit is the impedance
adjustment. I gotta say that it's nearly impossible to go back to a
preamp that doesn't have it. Although, there is a Trident MTA here for
sale that I'm drooling over. Alas, with the ISA ONE, and my Trident
plugins, I'm pretty well set.
