Recently, an acquaintance asked me to do something that required using
FaceBook. The ensuing conversation was:
Me: I'm sorry, I don't use FaceBook
Her: Oh? Why not?
Me: Because the only reason that FaceBook exists is to steal as much
personal information about you as they possibly can so they can
sell it.
Her: Really? Why do you say that?
Me: FaceBook is free isn't it?
Her: Yes.
Me: But doesn't running a large internet computer system cost a lot of
money?
Her: I suppose so.
Me: Who pays for it? Where does all that money come from?
Her: Oh!
Even this adult woman hadn't stopped to think about the ramifications of
using FaceBook. Are 13 year olds as wary as Faceless Moose?
