Andrew,
The curse of "modern bacon is the pre-packed stuff. look
carefully and you will see "added water" as an ingredient Arghhhhhh ! Proper
bacon is making a comeback. At the local farmers in Usk there is always a good
selection, and traditional butchers are another good source. Just avoid most of
the supermarkets!

It can be. The last couple of times I've been in the UK I was disturbed to find
that all the bacon was rather wet and sweated horribly when cooked. Strange.
Nothing like the thinly sliced marvel I normally enjoy.
Perhaps you've never had the good gear?
