That's what I did in 2009 - I was there for three months. Anything over 10
years old is dirt cheap, because of the annual 'MOT' check.
Buying - no problem. But insuring it - as I said, no UK licence and most won't
touch you.
And the one's that will want massive premiums.
And it's illegal to drive uninsured.
And the premiums are variable depending on your occupation. 'Journalist' is a
red flag - high category. I tell them I'm a retired doctor. I knew that shonky
online doctorate in ethics would come in handy one day.
By an Op shop, Wayne mean Charity Shop/Thrift Store. (Op for opportunity!)
I do that too. There's lots of small Red Cross and similar - but not like some
of the big ones we get here. But they are very clean an have some very nice
stuff
Some even specialise in books and music.
Underwear - Tesco's and Sainsburys - the larger stores have a great range of
cheap, basic clothing (up to shoes and suits but the socks and jocks are great
value). It's a quarter of the price I'd have to pay here. I sometimes buy
collectible cameras and send them home wrapped in new undies.
I fly in with the bare minimum. The day before I leave the UK I always visit
the local (Hospice) shop with a box of stuff.
