I think the "Dr Dave" you are referencing proceeded me by a couple of years.
I got into radio radio broadcast industry in 1987. In those days the cool
thing for dentists and chiropractors was to own radio stations. I got my
teeth picked clean in more than one way by those guys.
There was this "Dr" somebody down in Texas that was legendary for screwing
the suppliers. I can't remember at the moment who it was, but he managed to
build his 18 station empire (limits in those days) on equipment and systems
he essentially ripped off from the manufacturers. Another of his cohorts was
one of those "get rich by working the loopholes" guys that sold videos,
books and one-man shows. If you paid him $200 for his "system" you too could
learn how to buy $150,000 houses for nothing. You got away scot-free, but
your victims had to declare bankruptcy afterwords.
