I have not tried to do any batch processing yet with Elements. I am not
all that interested in Lightroom's library facilities either. As far as
Elements go, I just really don't care to run the whole thing just to
process RAW images, not that I have found anything particularly better
at this point.
The laptop is running with 2gb of RAM, enough to run things, but
obviously more would be better. The machine at work runs with 4, but is
a bit older.
