John,
One of my neighbors has an elaborate outdoor fish pond that was initially
hunted by a Great Blue Heron. His solution was (no not a shotgun) to run
parallel strands of fine monofilament fishing line spaced about a foot
apart. It doesn't entangle the herons but they *really* dislike it and leave
his fish alone. From a few feet away the line is nearly invisible and
doesn't spoil the view. If you like I'd be happy to photograph and e-mail to
