I wonder if it's a little different with the 5D? On a very few 
occasions, I've noticed the AF isn't working. A quick swipe of contacts 
on lens and body with something like a shirttail and all is well again. 
But no Err indication on the camera.

Maybe 'cause it's Tamron lenses and they withhold information from the 
camera body. :-)
