But Bill, CR does not pretend to be experts on haute cuisine. They
test goods and services that a typical American family consumes, and
surely restaurant chains are where the vast majority of people go. I
have not seen that particular test, but I can imagine that they rated
the speed of service, price, food etc. And again, what are the
alternatives? Michelin rates the high-end restaurants, but those are
relevant to perhaps 0.1% of the population--and besides, Michelin's
ratings are at least as controversial as any other ratings out there.
In the end with things like restaurants, where a bad choice does not
have major consequences, there is no substitute for just trying it
yourself. I have eaten a 3-Michelin stars restaurants and walked away
disappointed. My favorite restaurant in Amsterdam lost its one
Michelin a few years ago for reasons unknown--it is still my favorite.
