When I lived at Switzerland it was almost but forbidden to call people
'old', /vieillard/ — they were always 'aged persons', /personne agée/.
Here in Brazil now too one can't say /velho/, we must say /idoso/. I
for myself, thirty years hence, will make a point of being called
oldman, viellard, velho.
