This is the way to buy, prepare and use a brush. It cost me less than
$10 (including shipping) for two cosmetic mask brushes on oboy (couldn't
be found locally even in Boston suburbs) and they work very well. They
look very similar to the mask brush shown on page 4 in the paper below.
Just be sure to follow the brush cleaning procedures (including the
filter test) before you use them for the first time. I thought my brand
new mask brushes were very clean as they came out of the packaging and
didn't think I'd have to clean them as recommended for artists brushes.
However, they were not clean as evidenced by a residue of flour-like
powder that showed up on the filter test. But washing in a little weak
detergent solution and lots of rinsing got them to pass the test on the
next try.
My brushes are only about 16mm wide which is much less than the width of
the 5D sensor but that only means I make two passes. I sweep one side
back and forth with the first brush and the use the second brush on the
other half.
