It's great for me that you are trying several things before I start thinking
about them. I ordered a C*non right angle view finder but haven't received
it yet. I found a post that said the Seagull finder did not mirror image the
view, but rather than risk being disappointed I clenched my jaw and ordered
the C*non.
Didn't you get the 24-105/4 C*non L lens? If so how would you compare it at
the long end to a Zuiko 100mm? Do you like it more than your 2.8 L lenses? I
guess the greater mass/inertia of the 2.8 lenses might even be a plus on a
monopod.
By any chance have you tried anything wider than a Zuiko 18mm on you 5D?

That's the combo I'm using now Jeff and I've been really pleased with the
results, especially when using IS lenses.
