And further back still would have been the Carl Zeiss 58/2 Biotar which was
copied by KMZ for the Zenith SLRs and named Helios 44 - deerived from a pre
WWII Planar, I believe.

Going back a bit further, the fast normal lens for the Topcon Super-D
was 58mm, as I recall.
