Hi Julian,
Making it removable for daylight- that's a great idea.
I've been thinking about making it fit all the way onto the illumination
button. If it fit the collar snugly, it would triangluate
the support much better. It might also be possible to dedicate the lug to this
thing and duplicate the socket further out.
Anyway....
About the heat- I'm thinking it's an LED powered project so there no heat to
speak of.
