I'm 47 and now wear progressive (no-line bifocals) daily.
The other day I tried focussing the OM-PC and XA with both my old glasses
(without any closeup correction) and the new ones.
The glasses WITHOUT closeup correction won, big time.
With the progressives, the only way I could acheive critical focus was with my
chin down, looking through the top 1/3 of the
eyeglasses. On top of that, I had to turn my nose to the right, so I could
look over the bridge of my nose (using a part of the
lens that is very close to the bridge.)
To say it was an unnatural posture is an understatement and I had so much eye
relief that I could barely see any more than the
microprism in the very center of the frame.
The non-progressives required no such shenanigans, of course. This came as a
surprise to me because I thought the projected image
"appears" to be at a one meter distance. At that distance, it helps me to have
a mild correction but the nose posture is just plain
unusable. It made me think that maybe I didn't cotton to the OM-4 because I
was using the wrong eyeglasses when I got it!
