Better than words, take a look at your lens. You will see a series of
numbers representing F-stops bracketing the red dot on the metal band
closest to the camera. Simply match the lines from these numbers to
the distance numbers on the focus ring, and you'll see the range of
distances that will be in focus.
That'll make sense when you look at the lens.
