For the 49mm lenses with shallow front elements (eg 50/1.8, 50/3.5, etc),
the #11 rubber stopper (48mm one end, 55mm the end other) will work just
fine. For the ones with a bulging front element (eg 50/1.4) I use a 48mm
drain plug that I found at Home Depot. You know, one of those white rubbery
thingies that's used to block a sink's drain and usually has a chain attached
to it. It's deep enough to handle most of the front elements with the
exception of the ultra wides. Avoid using a spanner wrench (or any other
metallic tool) on any of the lens name rings, it will almost certainly mar it.
