Your obvious choice is an iMac for ease of use. Add more memory to it [cheap
these days]. Macintoshen also absolutely scream past pc boxes when running
apps like photoshop. Your Sprintscan has a USB or a FireWire [IEEE
#something] interface, right? Not some ancient and glacially slow parallel
port interface or an older but faster scsi [prounounced "scuzzy"] interface...

ps. No connection to apple, except as a customer. Oh yeah, I interviewed
there once.
pps. I'm composing this on an IBM ThinkPad 770ED, which was the best available
laptop three years ago. Today, I'd probably buy a Mac. Uh, the wife and I
hold something like six shares of IBM and both of my parental units are IBM
retirees, but I didn't even interview there -- something about pissing into a
cup got in my way...
ppps. For the astute in the audience, I am sending this from a FreeBSD machine
running on generic pentium pc hardware -- XOpen is the version of X I'm
running on w98 on the stinkpad.
