You are probably missing Winsor's point there Frank.
When the LCD display fails - that is all that fails. The meter will
continue to function, you will still be able to take spot readings, clear
them, use the shadow and hilight functions, use TTL flash and so on.
The only difference is that you will not be able to see the viewfinder
display.
It will still be possible to use the camera on auto because the functions
themselves will not fail, just the display of their states.
