Toni's message - together with the thread on best and worst OM parts -
has set me thinking.
There are many aspects which determine which camera is the best one
for your photographic use - but apart from those there is another
question: which will camera (and other main parts of the OM-system)
will do its work as long as possible, or: which has the longest life
expectancy?
All cameras with LCD's in them will get useless in a few decades or
less, so the OM-4 will no longer do its work then. The OM-3(T), rather
than the OM-4(T), will still do its main task with a separate meter
when the display has worn out.
The OM-1(N) and 2(N) are probably even a better investment seen from
the life expectancy point of view: mechanical meters have a very long
life.
Same wear considerations apply for the LCD of the motor drive 2, and
the display of the Quartz remote controller. Their earlier
counterparts (MD 1 and M AC Control Box) will still be working,
perhaps in a museum, in a century from now.... winders are OK too.
I think that a system consisting of OM-2(N) or 1(N) together with a
motor drive 1 is the best for _very_ long term pleasure. If you want
to go automatic: get that rare M AC Control Box.
Any other views?
