(i'm trying to decide for
which system to purchase a lens for architecture: the Oly, a Nikon 28mm
w/ adapter to Minolta, or the
50mm for Mamiya 645. I'm leaning towards the Mamiya simply for the >
neg size..)
Sounds like you have a nice budget, then. If so, have you used the
Zuiko 24mm shift? This is simply an awesome lens, especially one or
more stops down.
For something with such a huge image circle (lots of extra light
bouncing around inside the mirror box), it has suprisingly low flare.
In panoramas I've stitched with it, direct sun shots are
indistinguishable from the other shots. In contrast, doing the same
thing with the Zuiko 24/2.8 resulted in the sun-on shot having
jarringly lower contrast:

(Requires QuickTime plug-in, free at
<http://www.quicktime.com/download>.) When the pan comes up, drag
about 180 degrees to the left side of the mountain peak, and you can
clearly see the contrast change in the sun-on frame. (All frames shot
with identical settings, manual exposure.)
(Sorry, I don't have any 24 shift pans on the web yet.)
The Zuiko 24 shift will set you back a kilobuck or more on the used
market, though, but I'd think any architectural specialist would want
one. I'd imagine the Mamiya 50mm shift would be of similar price.
