Hello Barbara. welcome to the list.
I would make one adjustement to your list. Instead of
the adjustable extension tube I would look for a fixed
length extension tube set. These usualy come in set of
threes, and will reduce by one the number of variables
you're contending with while trying to take pictures
of moving objects (i.e. butterflys).
They should also be less expensive then the variable
length tube.
Also, if you are going to be doing much macro work
(and it sounds like you are leaning that way) i would
recomend a 50mm lens. The reason is that a little
extension (from the tubes) gets you a lot of
magnification with smaller focal length lenses.
