Les,
if you live in an area which has any "surplus Electronics" stores they
always have lots of instrument cooling fans for at most a few dollars each.
These are usually specially designed to be pretty quiet and are about 4x4x1
in. The bearings do eventually go and then they can become noisey. The best
quality fans (quietest) usually advertise ball bearings on the label and were
often made in Germany . If you have an old unneeded PC lying around just open
the rectangular power supply box and pull the fan. Make sure to leave the
supply off for a day or so beforehand to ensure the capacitors are not
charged. Some modern instruments run the fan off a low voltage so check the
fan name plate to check it is meant to run off 110V.
