I have struggled with this problem for years. My solution is similar to
yours, but it is a real nuisance. [An old fireplace axial unit.]
The trouble is...where *do* you find a verifiably quiet fan? I see the
adverts, but I'm not sure I believe what I read. And the prices! It
would appear that darkroom exhaust fans are so precious that they are
worth easily four to ten times what they would cost if they were *not*
for photographic use.
What to do? We need a Consumer's Photo Union to test darkroom fans for
us.
Or is there someone out there mad enough to have actually tried a whole
spate of fans to find one or more that is quiet and efficient? [I
secretly hope so.]
