In a message dated 98-06-10 11:45:46 EDT, you write:

<< 've done this many times (drooling at some APS camera's MRC options).
 I'd add to your list:
1a) immediatedly stop rewinding as soon as you hear and feel the film
is getting loose from the sprocket. Thus there always will be a film
tip outside the cassette and you don't need this pulling device.
3a) make sure you always use the same technique for loading the film,
and always take one extra blank shot. This will prevent any double
 exposures.

I will second this. I always hold my ear to the camera back--you can hear the
film click when it comes off of the take up spool because of the reverse bend.
I always use a Magik Marker on the leader to tell me where to start taking
pictures again. Last, after I empty the camera of film, I finish winding the
shutter and snap a shot so that for each new roll I'm always starting the
loading process in the same place of the film wind/shutter cock procedure.
