The 300mm can be used with a shoulder stock very well, many say a 400mm
cannot. The 1.4 TC will give you 420mm f6.3 in a nice compact package
although a bit SLOW..
I heard somewhere that this combination is better (and cheaper) than the
Zuiko 400mm

Hi Foxy,
For some reason, I have no idea why, the 400mm has always been 3 to 4 times
the cost new or used of the 300mm. I paid $350 for mine (used, like new in
box) and $75 for my 1.4 Zuiko TC. I have only seen one 400mm on the used
market and they wanted $900 and it was only a 8+ or maybe a 9 at best.
Needless to say I declined. At only f6.3, I have a real problem with the cost
of this lens. Although I am sure it out performs the 300mm & 1.4TC. On the
other hand, I think the 600mm at f6.5 is priced very reasonable compared to
the one stop faster f 4.5 - 500 & 600mm lens on the market.
