Hi all
It seems I'm in the market for an alternative to my Manfrotto(Bogen) tripod.
I simply don't agree any longer with the hex-plates as these and the head
interfere with both my 300/4.5 (with winder attached) and the 90/2 (without
winder). Moving the bolt on the hex-plate created another problem, now the
fastener screw interferes with the head itself, arghh! (Are these things
only manufactured for N*k*n?).
My problem is with the head, not with the tripod. However, the tripod has
seen much use and will probably wear out in the foreseeable future, so I
might as well get a new one.
David Brown (and others) on this list have generously assisted with tips on
the Benbo Trekker. I fear, however, that may be too flimsy for all my needs.
My current set weighs 4 Kg, a compromise that works OK for me.
I'm leaning towards a Arca Mono-ball type, not necessarily the original and
with quick-release (a must!). Does anybody have experiences with these on
OM-bodies and lenses? It will be used with or without winder, on the
300/4.5, well, you know. I probably have to buy it all via mail-order and
don't want to end up with another interference problem!
Anybody's using Gitzo carbon fibers? Wooden?
Thanks
Ulf Westerberg
