I´ve heard the advice, to use diaper bag, so often, that I doubt that
criminals haven´t heard of it too.
The most critical situation, for the protection of your gear, is when
you´re shooting photos. Not only you´re distracted, but it is also
obvious to the criminal, that you´re carrying photo gear and where
you´re it storing.
Generaly it´s better to use transport cases, which don´t atract the
attention of people and therefore criminals too, bright colors like red,
yellow, should be avoided.

P.S. As an alternative maybe every Olympian could carry a thief
protection Zuiko (1000mm Zuiko), to heavy, dangerous for thiefes heads
;-)
