Hi, I do seldom use them. When I am just out walking, and weather is in doubt, I carry an OM with a moderate zoom in one of those little cases slung across one shoulder. On a backpacking expedition, camera(s) and lenses travel under the top cover of the backpack, where they are best protected against weather and tumbles. Lenses in rigid cases or in those padded covers you can buy (made by Tatonka) can go in a side pocket. A long lens balances a full Thermos bottle nicely!
