>>For the record, I could understand PvT occasionally jumping in to sell
things, but the "..we've got that for $..." and unsolicited postings of new
inventory coming in was simply annoying (at best. )
Heck, I've got business to do too, but I know my stay here would've been
short if I tried those tactics. Most people here (I think) just don't like
it.>>
Yes, I have been thinking about the differences since this got started.
JH is obviously here also to pick up a little business. And there's nothing
wrong with that.
However, he shares his tremendous store of knowledge freely, which is a
benefit to us all.
IOW, we have a 'mutually beneficial relationship'. We, the list (or at
least I) gain knowledge. JH, in return for that knowledge, gains clients,
and an occasional sale or two. For example, a few weeks ago I mentioned to
the list that every time an ad for a 21/2 was published in Shutterbug at a
reasonable price, it was sold seemingly before it hit the newsstands. JH
responded, discreetly, that he happened to have one for sale at a
reasonable price. Off-list, we came to an agreement. I was happy, and I
assume JH was as well.
The JH relationship to the Oly list should be a model on which all
commercial transactions are based on...

Denton Taylor
