The 35-105 is a terrific lens, esp. if you like high contrast (I do!).
In fact, with this lens contast seems to be more pronounced than with
most other Zuikos -- IMHO, it's comparable to the 100/f2.8. Other
performance parameters (sharpness, color rendition, construction
quality) are up to OLY high standards. I'm certain you won't be
disappointed. It's a convenient FL range too, although I personally
prefer the 28-85 range. Did you get the 35-105 matching hood, btw?
There were some rumors on this list about the identity of the 35-105
OEM manufacturer. John H. is of the opinion that this zoom was made by
Tokina. I was able to confirm that the Yashica ML 35-105mm/f3.5-4.5
lens is identical to the Zuiko in every respect, save the nameplate and
mount. Minolta's 35-105 MD lens looks similar, but seems to have fewer
elements, maybe due to the differences in mount to focal plane distance.
IMHO, more forensic evidence is needed to indite Tokina of this "crime".
For whatever reason, the 35-105 was the third most expensive zoom in
the Zuiko stable, right behind the 35-80/f2.8 and 50-250/f5. Dunno why
this is so, but the situation was similar with the OLY AF zooms. Has
anyone ever taken a 35-105 apart? Is there ED glass inside, or maybe
gold nuggets :-) ??
I now own a 100-200/f5, but have yet to test it, and, with all these
El Niño rains out here, this project may have to wait, and wait, and
wait ....
