I'm afraid I'm one of the skeptics and Olympus didn't raise my desires by
introducing the OM2000. I have to say I haven't given it more than a cursory
glance - its not an OM system camera and its a lower model than I own (4Ti). I
would never downgrade my system, so there's no way I'll ever buy one hence I've
never bothered to look at it. The 3Ti OTOH raised my desires but quickly
dampened
them with the ridiculous price tag.
My simple vision for Olympus to get back in the market is to simply lower their
prices on the 4Ti, 3Ti and all the lenses. I for one would buy a 3Ti tomorrow
if
it were under $1,000 plus I'd buy a 21mm f/2 if it were similarly reduced in
price.
I absolutely applaud your actions in hasseling Olympus, they certainly need a
swift kick up the butt, especially for dumping such a loyal bunch of users. If
anything comes of your efforts, I reckon all the list members should chip in
$10
and buy you a brand new OM-in-between or OM5. At the very least Olympus should
be
thinking of employing you in their PR section. I do feel, however, you will be
disappointed in Olympus' response (or lack of one).
I'm sorry to be such a party pooper but for the following reasons I think
Olympus
have bailed out of 35mm for good:
1. The outrageous price of the 3Ti (which lets face it can't have cost that
much
to produce, after all its only a modified OM2s/4/4Ti - all the jigs and
machinery
were there and circuitry is getting so cheap to produce).
2. The massively high profile digital advertising /promotion that's going on
currently, which in their words 'is the future of photography'.
3. A weedy effort of introducing a low end camera which isn't even
manufactured
by them.
Ok start flaming.....
John.
PS Believe me - I'm a die-hard OM fan and no-one would like to see a new OM
more
than me.
