The story of my life. I get bears coming through the yard pretty
consistently, but they are nearly impossible to photograph. Part of
the problem is subject recognition. I'm not expecting a bear so I'm
not looking for a bear. Also, bears have an interesting visual
signature. In your peripheral vision, the bear is not a bear, it's a
lack of background in a bear shape. Finally, the thing that delays
recognition is that the eye initially identifies it as a dog. Add all
this up and it can be 5 seconds before your brain clicks: "BEAR!" Add
whatever time to that to grab the camera.
