I haven't noticed a similar trend here and I keep an unofficial record. 
I do know that there is a very steep gradient from very little rain to a 
deluge. e.g. a spot between here and Dungeness Pt is one of the driest 
places on the coast north of Pt Conception (350mm). South end of our 
island gets less than 500mm, the north end approaching 900. We are in 
the middle 6-700mm. Closer you get northeast to the coast range and 
southwest into the Olympics exceeding 6000mm. That's only 60mi/100km 
either way!
