Economics comes to mind.
In 2010, upon encountering an auditorium containing 20,000 destitute, penniless
people, who came to hear a talk by Bill Gates, an economist said, "Isn't the
economy doing wonderful! On average, I see a room full of millionaires!"
Fast forward ten years. That same economist happens by a huge sports stadium,
with 100,000 destitute, penniless people, there to hear a talk by Jeff Bezos.
"Isn't the economy doing great! There's FIVE TIMES as many millionaires as
there were ten years ago!"

generate food and process our wastes, "sustainable growth" has to be
re-examined for the oxymoron it is. -- Thom Hartmann
