Jan, Philippe raised a valid question, and set me to searching for more
info. In that period, my eyesight was changing, and I was looking for a
replacement for my Leica rangefinder. I tried several used cameras,
including East German products and, as it turns out, a Petri from
Japan. It turns out this was the Petri, which I used for a while.
You are right, though. Things really have changed. Zenith is gone. My
first computer at work was a Zenith. The USAF bought a bunch of their 286s.

That was going to be my guess! I had one of those! It had an adhesive-backed plate that said
"SEARS" over the Praktika label that I pried off. The bottom said, "Made in Occupied
Germany."
We also had a Zenith TV. They eschewed early printed circuit boards, and were advertised
as "hand-built quality."
My, how things have changed...
