I'm a fan of the strap solution (especially if mounted lower on the filter housing instead of near the threads) as it doesn't squeeze the threads to the binding point. But I think the more logical solution is to add a monthly preventative maintenance routing where you do a quick loosen and retighten. That will prevent it from succumbing to time-based binding. Another trick is to see if it will budge at all while still under pressure. I don't think it's binding at the O-Ring. I think it's binding in the threads.
